What pooled studies report for SP vs multiport
The SP literature is newer than multiport RARP. There are no randomised trials yet; findings come from comparative cohorts and meta-analyses. Full references are on the Evidence page.
Pooled comparative work: similar operative time, catheter time, complications, continence, potency, margins, and biochemical recurrence; hospital stay shorter for SP after sensitivity analysis (WMD about half a day).
Meta-analysis: SP-RARP associated with shorter stay and lower opioid requirement vs MP-RARP, with comparable perioperative and oncological outcomes.

Dr Kooner is a urological surgeon with a long experience in robotic and minimally invasive urology. On Thursday 15 January 2026 he completed NSW's first pure Single Port robotic prostate procedure using a true single-incision technique without additional assisting ports, after structured training and intra-operative proctoring by Dr Ryan Nelson (USA), an internationally recognised SP robotic surgeon.
Single Port surgery is offered at St Vincent's Private Hospital, Sydney, the first hospital in NSW to install the da Vinci SP system.

Presenting on Single Port surgery at the Surgical Robotics & Innovation Summit 2026
On Friday 23 and Saturday 24 October 2026, Dr Raji Kooner took part in the Surgical Robotics & Innovation Summit 2026, where he gave a presentation titled Da Vinci Single Port Surgery: Current Landscape and Tips and Tricks.
The talk looked at where Single Port robotic surgery stands today and shared practical lessons from the work of Dr Kooner and his colleagues at St Vincent's Hospital and The Mater Hospital Sydney.
With the da Vinci SP system, the surgeon operates through one small incision rather than the several incisions used in standard multiport robotic surgery. In January 2026, Dr Kooner completed NSW's first pure Single Port robotic prostate procedure.
